Ferry Building (Embarcadero)
This is a foodie destination for shops, a weekly farmer’s market and restaurants, and interesting beer has not been neglected. Hog Island Oysters is one of the most scenic places to have a beer in the Bay Area, on the bay side of the Ferry Building. Check their schedule, they are currently open until 8 pm (6pm weekends) only. Hog Island just serves four ales and beers, generally two from North Coast Brewing and two rotating taps. On a recent visit, for example, they offered selections from Bear Republic and S.F. brewpub Magnolia. They also serve raw and roasted oysters, and clam chowders.
Don’t feel like oysters? On the street side at the Ferry Building’s north end is Taylor’s Automatic Refesher, a burger place which usually has regional microbrews on tap. If you were to be having a (splurge) dinner at the Slanted Door, you’d note they offer bottled Belgian beers to go with their acclaimed and flavorful Vietnamese cuisine.
Finally, note that this is where you get the Larkspur Ferry to Marin Brewing Company, for a lovely day trip.
