Hop Grenade, The (Concord)

Hop Grenade is a serious beer bar. Brought to life by a couple of the folks who produce the weekly Brewing Network podcasts, this bar features a wide array of draft and bottled beers. The tap list runs 21-deep with another 100 or so bottles available to take out or drink on-premise for a modest “corkage” fee.  They promise to reserve one tap for sour beers, though they may have more than one at any given time. The servers know their beers and will work with you to find a beer you’ll like. A cool feature is an electronic menu that indicates the strength, bitterness, serving glass and amount remaining of each beer.Hop Grenade

Inside there is a ten-seat bar and a modest-sized area with tables. Outside, in front and along the side there is a wide variety of seating options including a couch and fire pit. This serves to double the size of the bar. There are several TV’s that are used for the beer menu. They do say that one may be devoted to a home-town sporting event from time to time.

There is a very light snack menu available and their license allows minors on premise.

Extras: The Brewing Network studio is in the bar. If your timing’s good, you might get to watch and listen to a podcast live. And you might be able to drink some of the featured beers along with the broadcasters and their guests. Next door is E.J. Phair.  Also, you’ll run into frequent concerts, farmers markets and other events in Todos Santos Park across the street.

  1. Hop Grenade is great, they rotate in new beers often, have a wide range of brews for any craft beer lover. Not a far walk from Concord BART but if you want there is a County Connection bus #11 (311 on weekends) that stops near Hop Grenade. Awesome staff, awesome place to be.
